CCAM UK Reviews | Print |

{mosimage}{mosimage} The CCAM young people have been well received on their UK tour. They really enjoyed seeing the English countryside, visiting Chatsworth House and meeting the?people.? They even managed to fit in time to see the Blackpool illuminations and go to the Giants Causeway when they were in Northern Ireland.?

The following reviews and reports give a flavour of the evenings of Khmer culture:

"There was a Khmer Monkey Chayan welcome in the Doncaster Civic Theatre when three Cambodian children, miraculously not missing a beat on their cymbals and drum, wove and capered through the milling crowd in the foyer before the start of their concert on Tuesday (10th October). With some of the cheekiest monkey smiles you could ever hope to see, they set the mood for an evening of Khmer music and dance."??? (plus Cliff Richard's Millennium prayer.)

"We had the Fan Dance, the Peacock Dance, the Offering dance?and the Coconut Dance, but everyone's outright favourite was the Fishing Dance (performed by the Junior Team with baskets). The sparkle of those cheeky smiles certainly added to the allure of this boy/girl fishing drama, and an extra variety of patterns, formations and dancer interaction, together with outbursts of raw vitality and lots of hey ya! went down a treat after the simpler, more similar style of the other dances."

"A little slice of Cambodia came to our neck of the woods last night (Monday 23rd October). The Royal Forest of Dean Theatre Coleford was the venue for this performance, a mixture of Khmer classical and folk dance with some modern elements thrown in for good measure.

"The CCAM School in Phnom Penh is primarily a home for disadvantaged children and provides the kids with shelter, schooling and promotes the Christian faith. The evening's performance incorporated the Christian message but it wasn't overbearing for non-believers?and it was great to see some of the younger performers meeting up with many of the local children after the show ended."

"This pleasant evening of entertainment is a fine way of raising awareness of the work done by?CCAM and Cambodia Action, and also forms a valuable part of the children's education and training. Now, what's the Cambodian for thank you?"

"YEAR nine pupils from Abbey College (Huntingdon, Cambridgshire) were treated to a traditional dancing display by pupils from a school in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.

"The Abbey students were able to watch the complex dances, which have taken the dancers more than three years to master. There was also an opportunity to ask questions via the troupe's interpreter.

"Mariette Cracknell, 13, said: 'I was amazed at the intricate hand movements of the dancers. Their dancing was really elegant, totally different to anything I have seen before.' "
